whats your guys opinion on a 6-9.oz weight for the fly wheel
ill be racing with the bike. so its the lightest fly wheel possible...
im only 5'5 and a 130lbs

reason for thinkin about getting the weight is that i ALWAYS spinn out or have trouble keepin the back tire in place on the hard pack.... or any track basicaly other then gopher...

what do yous think?

A flywheel weight would probably help, but you might want to go a little heavier.
Is the timing not adjustable on those bikes, for that very reason? That's free.

I don't know.
Ask extremephotography, or Mike Liberty.

if you're looking for traction, you need a heavier flywheel, like the enduro/harescramble guys use. The extra mass helps keep the engine turing over at very low rpm too.

Hey Guys I might be able to add some insight here. I actually rode a yz250 for about 5 years and experimented with several different weights. I actually have a 6.5 oz and a 13 oz. Both work, but do different things. you cant hardly stall the bike with the 13 oz, but it drove me crazy trying to get the bike to rev.... having said that I did like the extreme traction that it gave. I just felt that it used too much HP. My bike was bored out to 265 and I had a gnarly pipe with v force reeds to try and smooth the motor out.... all the additions helped, but the weight made one of the best improvements. The 6.5 oz weight was just enough to give me some traction, slow down the rev, and just kind of "clean" things up.

My suggestion on a stock 250 would be an 8 or 9 oz weight. keep in mind if you buy a heavy weight and it seems like its too much, find someone to turn it in a lathe and lighten it up. way easier to lighten than add weight. My 13 oz stealy is for sale if your interested.......

Hope this helps,

Neil

When i had my YZ250 we did a TON of stuff to it. We re-jetted it, 13 oz flywheel weight , adjusted the timing and changed the pipe. Mike Liberty helped me with that we backed of the timing and swapped my 08 pipe for his 06 pipe . All of these things helped smooth out the power and make it more manageable . The guy who has my 250 has the flywheel weight and i think he was taking it off. The 08 pipe has a HUGE difference compared to the older pipes .Timing made a HUGE difference too.

sorry for the late response Ive been a little lax at checking my post.

My bike is a 2000, but the same puller works on the 09, so I cant imagine a difference. as far as getting it turned down lots of places can help with that. My suggestion to you woulod be to try it at 13oz to start and then make changes from there.

I had to make a wrench for mine so thats not to pretty but the weight itself has hardware and is perfect right from Steahly. send me a pm and i'll let you know how much.

Neil
